The Civil War Tour is a classic DCRand brevet, taking in four battlefields. The ride starts in Urbana, MD and soon enters the Monocacy Battlefield, on the way to the first climb of day, Catoctin Mountain at MarLu Ridge. The route goes through Jefferson and Burkittsville in the Middletown Valley before climbing South Mountain to the battlefield at Crompton's Gap, which features Gathland State Park, a crossing of the Appalachian Trail, and Correspondents Arch. From there the route approaches the first large battle, Antietam, in Sharpsburg, where you can refuel at the Battleview Market. Then you're on to Boonsboro and beyond that the longest climb of the days, over South Mountain on Ravens Rock Road. After Sabillasville you enter Pennsylvania and climb little Jack's Mountain before the lunch opportunity of Fairfield. In 72 miles you've climbed 5,000 RWGPS feet, and the remaining 58 miles give you about 2,800' more climbing. In Gettysburgh you might also grab lunch, after a large loop of the battlefield. It's 46 miles to the end with there, with a potential to resupply at the Woodsboro High's at mile 111.
